Organic Forage Oats

Avena sativa Annual grass. A late-heading vigorous oat that has gained a cult following among dairy farmers and veggie growers alike. More heat-tolerant than common oats. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic Yellow Sweet Clover

Melilotus officinalis Biennial legume. Up to 6'. Vigorous clover for cover cropping and bee forage. Thick succulent plants make an excellent green manure. Long thick taproots are very effective at breaking up subsoils and improving soil aeration. They bring up phosphorus and potassium in the process. Bees love sweet clover. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic White Clover

Trifolium repens Perennial legume. Up to 9". Small-leafed perennial clover establishes quickly and withstands traffic and close mowing. More vigorous and slightly taller than Dutch White Clover. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic Buckwheat, Common

Fagopyrum esculentum Annual broadleaf. Up to 4' high. Frost-sensitive. Large-seeded Japanese buckwheat with short maturity will tolerate most conditions, including soil pH as low 4.8. Bees like its abundant nectar. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic Alfalfa

Medicago sativa Perennial legume. Up to 3' high. This fragrant plant with beautiful purple flowers is a favorite for multi-year stands. Home gardeners like to cut it and add it to their compost piles. Herbalists consider it a valuable nutritive tonic. Excellent feed for all classes of livestock. Best suited to light well-drained soils because alfalfa's taproot makes it susceptible to heaving. Delicate seedlings benefit from a nurse crop of barley or oats. Seed coated with Summit Seed Coatings Apex™ Green Hydroloc, an OMRI-Listed® pre-inoculant. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic Rye Grass

Lolium multiflorum Annual or winter annual grass. Up to 4'. Extremely frost hardy. Widely adaptable to a variety of soils and to all but the hottest climates. Annual rye will establish quickly in cool wet weather, providing a dense cover crop and outcompeting weeds. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic Barely

Hordeum vulgare Annual spring grain. Up to 3' high. Moderately frost-hardy. Tolerates drought and alkaline or heavy soils. Does not tolerate wet or acidic soils. May be planted later than other spring-sown small grains and maintain good yields. Seed in May/June at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic SORGHUM-SUDANGRASS F1

For building biomass, smothering weeds and penetrating compact soils. With growth up to 12' tall and dry matter production of 4,000-5,000 lbs/acre, it makes an excellent soil builder. Adaptable to much of the U.S. provided the soil temperature reaches 65 degrees F two months before the first frost. Seed 0.5-1.5" deep; shallower in heavier soils, deeper in sandy soils. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Organic Red Clover

Beautiful crop for N-fixation, hay, pasture and green manure. Fixes 100 lbs of nitrogen per acre and mines nutrients from deep in the soil. Smaller than Mammoth red clover; regrows vigorously after mowing or grazing. Incorporate after the second growth season. Perennial if not plowed under. Seed in the Springtime at 5–10#/acre, ¼# per 1000 sq ft.

Coverage: 1oz 4x4 area 2oz 8x8 area - spread lightly unless you want thick coverage.

Recommended to chop your crop and let the snipping break down in your beds.
